In the spirit of Karl and Annette,  who each put in thousands of hours of loving care, won many awards, but  were never paid for their work, the garden is cared for and tended by  hundreds of volunteers each year who live on the block, live in the  neighborhood, or come visit us from other parts of the city or world. If  you or an organization you're a part of would like to get your hands  dirty with us and make your contribution to the story of how two  people's love for their community physically transformed it from blight  to bounty, please contact our volunteer coordinator, Shane King. You may  walk away tired, dirty, and sore, but it's rare that volunteers don't  walk away at the end of the day smiling.
